Breeders Cup Bets

No joy for me on day one at Churchill Downs but I’m sticking to my policy of going for runners at big prices at this, the toughest race meeting of them all and I’m plumping for a 25/1 shot in the Classic.

First things first. You’d need to be on drugs to back Workforce at a short price for the Turf. Teddy Grimthorpe couldn’t get away fast enough from Matt Chapman yesterday as Matt tried to pin him down on whether or not Workforce would run. What was most telling was the way in which Khalid Abdhulla’s man avoided making a direct comment on the actual current soundness and wellbeing of the horse. Now I’m not saying there’s definitely something amiss with Workforce but given the conditions he excelled in at Epsom I can’t believe all the prevarication is about the surface.

John Gosden was at pains to point out that the track staff should be allowed to get on with preparing the track without interference and I think that’s because he knows a quick turf surface will suit Debussy right down to the ground. Gosden knows the lay of the land Stateside and I think Debussy has been widely underestimated coming into a race that was always his target. At a double figure price he’ll do for me.

Goldikova is another short priced runner that I’m willing to take on. Sidney’s Candy will be away and gone from this field and around the tight turns of Churchill will take some pegging back and again at a doulbe figure price makes a lot of appeal.

Finally in the Classic I’d love to see Zenyatta win. She’s an absolute super star but I think the Japanese horse Espoir City has been wrongly overlooked and consequently wildly overpriced at around 25/1.

Be lucky!

I think Quiet Times might just spark an incredible two days for Brian Meehan – Theysken’s Theory has a serious chance and Dangerous Midge is better than a 6/1 shot – and Informed Decision looks to be a massive player following the withdrawal of Rightly So.

At least Dangerous Midge won to stem the financial bleeding!

Yes, well done with that one htN. Meehan confirms he’s the real deal in taking horses over. Was a tough old meet though in terms of nailing winners wasn’t it.
